Carolyn understands medical terminology, she knows about medical conditions and is very interested in the body-mind connection. Apart from treating mental health conditions like depression and anxiety, Carolyn is very experienced in helping clients with weight management and overcoming binge eating and food addiction.
Carolyn has advanced training in Counselling Psychology and she is skilled in evidence-based psychological treatments which include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), ACT (a mindfulness-based cognitive therapy), and Schema-focused Therapy. She also has advanced training in Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT/Tapping). EFT/Tapping (a.k.a. psychological acupuncture) has been shown in brain imaging studies to reduce activity in an area of the brain called the Amygdala. This area acts like the smoke-alarm for stress and when EFT is applied, the smoke alarm can be quickly turned off. EFT has wide application and many scientific studies have shown its effectiveness for treating food cravings, weight management, anxiety, phobias, panic, PTSD, depression, and chronic pain, as well as increasing goal directed behaviours for peak performance.
